That will remove the time-based grouping from the Downloads folder. The folder layout will go back to looking like it did before you updated to It has been a part of Windows for ages.
The only bug here is that Windows 10 decided to enable it for the Downloads folder on its own. Before that, the files in the folder had no sorting and it is possible some users never even knew it existed. It can group by more than just time and you might find the other options in the sub-menu to be useful. The Downloads folder tends to build up with files. Did you open additional Windows Explorer-windows?
Did you check additional apps using "Save as Did you log on and off? Did you restart? Did the changes persist for longer than some hours or even days? Those are the interesting questions, because things seem to work "a bit" for many people, but not permanently. I'm in details view as well, else I wouldn't be able to sort by name by clicking on column headers. And no, I don't have any MS-account.
That doesn't change anything for "Save as Opera, just checked, and does only make sense for Windows Explorer if the 0-GUID is in fact a reference to default values. If that changes anything permanently can't be said currently, because Windows Explorer worked for some days as expected in the past already. So working correctly now doesn't mean much. Instead, it's pretty likely that it doesn't work correctly permanently, because "Save as That was not the case some days before. I noticed that the search results in Downloads folder is also changed by something else for other folders, search results have view of "Content", but Downloads folder has "Details" , but I cannot find it out.
But Search Results for a particul ar folder save their view settings like other folders. Are you sure you didn't get a Content view result at some point and swithch the view to Details? First, although I do not know the reason is if I click "Apply to Folders" in the folder options of Downloads, it will not copy the layout of Downloads to other folders with same type in my setting, Downloads is General Items, in default.
It means that Apply to Folders cannot work correctly on Downloads folder. And I use it to reset the settings on Downloads for test below. And it is an issue needs to be fixed. Second: I notice that if I use search box in Downloads folder, the search results will display in Details view. If I change it in results window to Content, it would be fine for all of later search actions, but when I click Apply to Folders Since I have removed the weird template, it will be reset to Name ascending without group if I click Apply to Folders, as I explained above , all of later search results will be set to Details view.
I tried it on my another PC with same win10 which does not remove the template, as a contrast , Apply to Folders will apply the default template on Downloads, and search results in Downloads folder will be set to Details view. I find your post about group by for the Downloads folder through google search. I have being trying to learn how to use Process Monitor to monitor registry changes. But I'm not able to add the correct filters to see the changes when I make setting settings to the Download folder.
I was wondering if it possible that you can write a short steps on how to do that? I know the basic of adding a filter for process name for app process or path for registry path filtering. Have a nice weekend! Unmarking your answer, because opening the downloads folder in Windows Explorer today brought back the grouping in Windows Explorer and dialogs like "Save as So as expected, your proposed fix is not permanent.
Not sure what exactly triggered the standard behaviour occurring again, but it was definitely not me changing it manually. Monday, August 5, PM. The question is if those settings are still persisted per user? Conclusion 2: Because changing the grouping to other aspects than creation time works, disabling grouping could be interpreted as something like "remove all customizations", resulting in the 0-GUID.

Hi, since I updated to the new Windows version the files in some folders like "Downloads" are always grouped by the date. But in all kind of "Save as" dialogs from any application the group by date still appears and in those special explorer windows there is no option to disable file grouping in them.
So how can I disable this globally? This thread is locked.
